Planning & Zoning

The Planning and Zoning Board is responsible for making recommendations to the Council regarding planning and zoning requests and other land development. All Planning and Zoning Board meetings and City Council meetings are recorded and available by visiting our Council Meetings page.

P&Z is currently seeking qualified residents to serve as an Alternate Member!

The Alternate Member of the Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Board for the City of Mexico Beach serves as a backup participant in the board’s decision-making process, ensuring continuity and maintaining quorum when a regular board member is absent or unable to participate. This position requires a strong understanding of the city’s Land Development Code, Comprehensive Plan, and zoning regulations, as well as a commitment to preserving the unique character and vision of Mexico Beach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend P&Z Board meetings and be prepared to step in when a regular member is absent.

  • Review and analyze development proposals, site plans, variance requests, and rezoning applications to ensure compliance with city ordinances and comprehensive planning goals.

  • Provide informed input and recommendations to the City Council regarding land use, zoning changes, and future growth management.

  • Collaborate with city staff, developers, and community stakeholders to promote responsible development that aligns with the city’s long-term objectives.

  • Stay informed on local, state, and federal regulations that impact municipal planning and zoning practices.

Qualifications:

  • Residency within the City of Mexico Beach.

  • An understanding of or willingness to learn municipal land use regulations, planning processes, and zoning laws.

  • Strong analytical, communication, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to objectively evaluate proposals and contribute to discussions in a constructive manner.

Term and Commitment:

  • Alternate members are appointed by the City Council and serve a term as defined by city ordinance.

  • Attendance at regular and special meetings is required, with the understanding that active participation may be necessary if a regular member is absent.

This position plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity of Mexico Beach’s development policies and ensuring that growth aligns with the community’s vision for the future.
